How Vinfen Helped My Life

I am a mother of three, grandmother and an artist. Art has and always will be a very important aspect of my life. I came to Gateway Arts in the fall of 1999. Since that time, I have re-dedicated myself to exploring my creative side.

I had received art training since age 13. My father encouraged me to attend art classes and I did! When I was in my 20s, I married and raised a family. At that time I experienced grief at the untimely death of my husband. I went into a deep depression. I let go of my art for many years in order to take care of my family.

Upon the referral of my Mass. Rehab counselor, I thought I’d give Gateway Arts a try.  I wasn’t sure what to expect.

Everyone connected to Gateway has shown me a great deal of respect and support when I needed it – emotional support as well as artistic support.

I explored new creative avenues such as hand-painting on glass, painting on silk, pottery, and some jewelry bead work. I came to Gateway with an art background, and Gateway counselors helped me to expand my art talents. I’ve gained so much confidence in myself as a person as well as an artist. I am now a member of the group, United South End Artists and participated in my first arts and crafts show.

Being at Gateway Arts has brought out the best I can be as an artist/crafts person. For that reason alone, I am grateful. Thank you.
