Neighbors, staff, individuals served, DDS officials and guests celebrated the opening of the Jamaicaway Rolland program located at 424 Jamaicaway in Jamaica Plain on Thursday, January 28.

“This is a wonderful day for the individuals who call 424 Jamaicaway their home. We are delighted for Alice, Maria, Eileen and Joe,”said EOHHS Assistant Secretary Dr. Jean McGuire.

DDS Commissioner Elin Howe also congratulated Vinfen and the individuals on the opening of the Jamaicaway Rolland program.

ADDP Director Gary Blumenthal said that even though these are tough fiscal times, it is important to focus on opening programs like this in the future.

Vinfen CEO Bruce Bird and Senior Vice President Joe Gomes thanked staff for the dedication and hard work over many months to prepare for the individuals to move in.

The 10-bedroom Victorian is located in one of Boston’s most historic neighborhoods in Jamaica Plain. The Vinfen facilities department was responsible for the extensive renovations which preserved the original character of the neighborhood.

This medically intensive program is designed to serve individuals with developmental disabilities and medical support needs. The home is staffed with Licensed Practical Nurses and Certified Nursing Assistants.

Vinfen’s core philosophy supports the belief that people with developmental disabilities are able to make meaningful choices, participate in the community, develop and sustain relationships with family and be treated with dignity and respect.

Also on hand were DDS Assistant Commissioner Larry Tummino and Arc Executive Director Leo Sarkissian.

Guests enjoyed refreshments prepared by Vinfen’s Webster House.
