Gateway Arts Holds Opening Reception for “I Curate Myself: Voices in Harmony”

Vinfen’s Gateway Arts held the opening reception for their newest exhibit, I Curate Myself: Voices in Harmony, on Friday, February 10 at their gallery in Brookline Village, MA. For this early Valentine’s Day Celebration, Gateway artists became curators, collaborating to develop a concept, title, and exhibition of their own work, and give voice to their artistic sensibilities.

Guests were treated to live music by Brookline Teen Center bands Jack and Jason and The Crunch Lemons. The event featured a reading of Rebecca Bella Rich’s “8 x 10 Love Story” by Femme Vital actresses Vanessa Greenleaf and Griffen Hoyle.

“Rebecca Bella Rich was sitting in the front row during the performance,” said Gateway Arts Marketing Specialist Justine Portmann. “She was visibly moved by the performance, and proud of her work. It was truly a great night.”

Vannessa Greenleaf is a local playwright who started the theater collective Femme Vital to support women’s voices in the arts. She works for Sidekicks International, a technology company that helps autistic families connect through media. Griffen Hoyle is a playwright and theatre artist based in Boston and London. She is a proud member of Femme Vital, and also works for Sidekicks International. Both actresses expressed their gratitude at the event for being able to participate, and were moved by Rebecca’s engagement with their performance.

A special thank you to event sponsors Brookline Teen Center, Femme Vital Theatre Company, Party Favors Brookline, and Central Bottle Wine + Provisions.

I Curate Myself can be viewed through March 11 at the Gateway Gallery in Brookline. Artist curators for I Curate Myself included Barbara Brown, Lyubov Rozenfeld, Ashley Barbour, Darryl Richards, Patrick Shea, Katy Busselsl, Israel Barber, Donna Esolen, Colleen McFarland, Molly Piper, Alison Doucette, and Chelsea von Harder.
