Cambridge Representative Alice Wolf Visits CBFS Program

April 9th, 2010

State Representative Alice Wolf of Cambridge toured the South Street CBFS (Community Based Flexible Support) program on Friday, April 9. Representative Wolf met with staff and clients at the South Street program to learn about the CBFS model of providing services to clients in Vinfen’s care.  Staff explained how the team approach is person-centered and focuses on recovery tailoring services to each individual’s needs.

Wolf, a strong advocate for mental health programs and issues, said that even though these are tough times on Beacon Hill she knows first hand how important services are to people with mental illness.  One South Street client told his moving story about how programs like CBFS have helped him transition from a hospital to a community setting.

The CBFS approach provides individualized services that are delivered by a CAR (Collaborative Action Recovery) team.  The teams partner with individuals to develop an action plan for recovery to get the needed supports such as employment, housing, school as well as links to community organizations.  The CAR teams help individuals set realistic goals for recovery.  Vinfen has recently completed a major transition to the new CBFS model for clients receiving services in the Psychiatric Rehabilitation Division.
