Vinfen Medical Director contributing to PBS, MTV, HBO programming
Vinfen Medical Director Dr. Ken Duckworth discussed depression as part of a panel of experts moderated by broadcast journalist Jane Pauley on a PBS special, Take One Step: Caring for Depression, with Jane Pauley.
Dr. Duckworth is also the medical director for the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI).
The program premiered on May 21, 2008, immediately following the PBS documentary, Depression: Out of the Shadows. The special and the panel discussion is being rebroadcast on PBS stations across the country. Check local PBS listings for time and date.
Other participants in the panel discussion were Dennis Charney, M.D., dean of Mt. Sinai Medical School and former chief of mood and anxiety disorders research at the National Institute of Mental Health, and Annelle Primm, M.D., MPH, director of minority and national affairs for the American Psychiatric Association.
Dr. Duckworth also provided assistance and guidance for an MTV special, True Life: I have Schizophrenia, aired on May 22. He wrote the blog and worked backstage with the program’s subjects.
The program focuses on young adults, ages 18-28, with schizophrenia. Done without narrators, it is a first-person look at the lives of these individuals, who have consented to be filmed over a period of several weeks.
In addition, Dr. Duckworth is participating in an HBO special on the controversies surrounding childhood bipolar disorder. The program is expected to air sometime in the fall.
