December 21st, 2009

peerspecialists12_09_09 011Vinfen peer coordinators, peer educators, Metro Boston Recovery Learning Community members and invited guests participated in a day-long training titled “Peer Bridger Competencies for Peer Specialists” at the Vinfen Training Center on Wednesday, December 9.

The goal of the training is to help peers prepare people to make transitions out of hospital or group living situations, learn how to better engage people, and assist people through difficult times and crisis.

The host, NYAPRS (New York Association of Psychiatric Rehabilitation) Deputy Director Mat Mathai discussed many topics including “Getting the Hospital Out of Us”, “What’s Working, What Can We Do Differently”, “Working in Partnership with Providers” and “Validating Experiences” to name a few.

The NYAPRS Peer Bridger vision is to “support each other to get out of the hospital, stay out of the hospital and get the hospital out of us.”
