Vinfen Staff Recognized at DMH Legislative Breakfast

Vinfen Peer Specialists Ryan Murray and Pedro Ayala were recognized for their outstanding contributions to individuals with mental illness at the DMH North East Area Legislative Breakfast on March 11 at the Statehouse. Murray and Ayala told inspiring stories of their personal journeys to recovery.
“Vinfen has allowed me to pursue my dreams and reach my goals,” said Murray. Murray is a Certified Peer Specialist. He grew up in Lowell and currently resides in Dracut. He recently achieved the credential for Certified Peer Specialist and works as a Peer Support Coordinator at the Essex North A CAR Team.
Pedro Ayala was born in Puerto Rico and currently lives in Lawrence. Pedro told the audience that his road to recovery hasn’t always been easy. He praised the peer support model and gave credit to Ryan Murray for being the inspiration for his recovery. Ayala has been a member of the Point After Club in Lawrence for over four years.
Following Murray and Ayala’s remarks, the pair received a standing ovation from the audience.
The event was sponsored by Representative Katherine M. Clark and Senator Frederick E. Berry. Rep. Clark praised DMH for its work on behalf of individuals with mental illness. DMH Commissioner Barbara Leadholm and North East Area Director Susan Wing also addressed the audience.
