Vinfen’s Cambridge/Somerville program hosted their 8th Annual Community Celebration on November 16 with a carnival-themed party at Arts at the Armory in Somerville, MA. Dozens of friends, family, staff, and persons served spent the evening celebrating dinner, dancing, carnival games, and on-stage entertainment. Live music was performed by members of Tune Foolery, a nonprofit that features musicians in recovery.
Richard Sheingold, a person served by Vinfen, once again delighted guests by conducting the event as Master of Ceremonies. Vinfen Vice President of Psychiatric Rehabilitation Tim Wing made introductions while President and CEO Bruce Bird welcomed guests. Tim, along with Vinfen’s Director of Affordable Housing Sue White, presented the Community Awards to Cambridge’s Leasing Officer Farita McPherson and Property Owner Edwin Ojeda.
Attendees were then treated to personal testimonials, poetry, comedy, and singing all by people served. “All of which was very moving,” said Richard.
During dinner, guests were treated to a prize drawing of gift cards that were generously donated by local businesses: S&S Restaurant, Souper Roll Up, Star Market, and 1369 Coffee House. Afterward, guests were then invited to dance with music provided by DJ Tommy.
A special thanks to the people served by programs in the Cambridge/Somerville area, their families, and staff from the Massachusetts Department of Mental Health and for Forklift Catering who provided the meal. In addition, a thanks to Vinfen staff members who were floor managers and servers, to individuals who helped with set-up and clean-up and provided transportation, and to those who were on Banquet Committees. Lastly, a thanks goes to all those who devoted their time and energy to the success of this celebratory event.
