You can make a difference without lacing up your sneakers! There is still time to give to the 2018 Run-4-Life. Donate today and support people with psychiatric conditions, one mile at a time.
On May 11 and 12, four 12-person teams of Vinfen staff, supporters, and persons served donned head lamps and sneakers to run the 190-mile Run-4-Life relay race from Hull to Provincetown, MA. They ran all day and all night to raise funds and awareness for people with psychiatric conditions. We are thrilled to announce that with your support, this year we raised over $29,000 so far!
The average life expectancy for people with major mental illness is 25-30 years shorter compared to the general population. This is largely due to treatable medical conditions that are caused by lifestyle risk factors like smoking, obesity, and inadequate access to medical care.
The good news is that people can take steps to influence these factors, and significantly reduce the likelihood of an adverse health outcome. With your help, Vinfen can enhance the health and well-being of the people we serve by developing programs that increase health awareness, encourage physical activity, provide nutrition education, create opportunities for exercise and fitness, and promote community involvement and partnerships that support healthy living.
Your generous support of Vinfen’s Run-4-Life has funded microgrants for some incredible health and wellness initiatives here at Vinfen, including a Garden Project at our Cambridge/Somerville Recovery Learning Center, yoga classes, and much more.
